May 2025 Updates

IAVA

Last week, our team had the honor of attending the American Democracy Summit in Arizona, where we collaborated with reform partners and allies who, like us, believe that there is a critical role to play in making our elections more competitive and government more accountable.

Meanwhile, our momentum continues across the country. From Primary Day in Pennsylvania, where our volunteers showed up strong, to the Wisconsin Voters Coalition’s Statewide Meeting, and an impactful screening of Majority Rules in Virginia, the Veterans for All Voters community is showing up, speaking out, and leading with purpose.

VAV State Updates

Pennsylvania

PA Primary Day – Tuesday, May 20th

Dennis Miller, a proud Marine Corps veteran, out on Primary Day Veterans for All Voters and standing alongside our reform partners at BallotPA and Open Primaries, Dennis is continuing his service by fighting for fair elections in the Keystone State.

Nearly 1.4 million independent (unaffiliated) voters in Pennsylvania are barred from participating in primary elections due to the state’s closed primary system.

Wisconsin

Wisconsin Voters Coalition Statewide Meeting

Veterans for All Voters–Wisconsin participated in the Wisconsin Voters Coalition Statewide Meeting by leading and contributing to several breakout sessions. Kevin facilitated a session on tactics, with note-taking support to capture key insights.

VAV member Brian Coker co-facilitated another breakout, while Pack Acuff contributed as part of a third breakout team.

Veterans for All Voters had strong representation throughout the event, helping shape the conversation on accountability in politics.

Virginia

Virginia Majority Rules Screening

Veterans for Virginia Voters held a screening of Majority Rules on April 29th in Fairfax with our coalition partner, the Forward Party in Virginia.  The event provided community members with valuable insights into potential solutions for our divided political landscape through the lens of Alaska’s electoral transformation.

The Q&A following the film allowed attendees to connect with fellow citizens who are passionate about strengthening democratic processes and learn how Veterans for All Voters and the Forward Party are advancing democracy in Virginia.  The discussion included the use of Ranked Choice Voting in the most recent County Board election in Arlington County, VA.
