Veterans for All Voters bipartisan anti-gerrymandering reform

Friends,

Last week, Veterans for All Voters stood on the steps of the Capitol with members of Congress from the cross-partisan Problem Solvers Caucus as they unveiled four anti-gerrymandering bills. The bills address when congressional districts are redrawn, who draws them, what standards apply, and how challenges are heard. VAV was an early partner in endorsing the framework behind them.

I'm proud our community of veterans and military family members, Independents, Republicans, and Democrats alike, was there to say enough is enough. Both major parties have taken part in this race to the bottom. We all have a responsibility to end it.

Americans understand what is at stake. Three-quarters of Americans believe partisan gerrymandering is a major problem, and roughly seven in ten said it should be illegal. We disagree on plenty. Here, there is common ground. Politicians should listen.

The caucus offers a better path, preserving the states' role in drawing maps while establishing national standards for congressional elections. That balance is rooted in the Constitution. Federalism should protect self-government, not provide cover for partisan manipulation.

This work will not end in November. We'll be first to the fight in 2027 and beyond, bringing our community of veterans and military families into conversations with neighbors and lawmakers, and into the halls of power where everyday Americans might otherwise go unheard.

We believe in a government of, by, and for the people. We believe in choosing the hard right over the easy wrong. And we believe in putting country over party, and people over power.

That is the America our brothers and sisters in arms fought and sacrificed for. That is the America we will keep serving.

In service,
Alberto
