Veterans know what it means to serve a country made up of many perspectives. Ranked choice voting reflects that reality. It gives voters more choice, strengthens accountability, and rewards leaders who can earn support from across the community.
Recently, national organizations like the Heritage Foundation have pushed to end ranked choice voting. A new federal proposal, the Make Elections Great Again Act, would create a nationwide ban on ranked choice voting in federal general elections, despite the fact that several states already use it successfully and voters chose it themselves.
Veterans understand that effective systems should be improved, not restricted. A one-size-fits-all federal ban takes decision-making away from states and disregards the will of local voters who supported ranked choice voting.
This debate is not about parties. It is about ensuring every American has a fair chance to be heard and that our election systems reflect the values of those who served: accountability, integrity, and respect for the people.
