In order to secure the “unalienable Rights” of “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” Governments are formed “deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
But what if over 19.5 million Americans have no legitimate way to provide their consent? According to our friends at the Independent Voter Project, over 65 Million Americans are registered (or identify) as Independent Voters. Over 19.5 Million of them live in one of 15 (plus Washington DC) closed primary states. For the crime of refusing to join a private political party, they have no voice – no meaningful vote – in the public primary elections that determine over 90% of the winners and losers in the November General Election.
Does this sound like consent of the governed? Or, dominance by private, gain seeking corporations who aren’t even mentioned in our beloved Constitution?
Veterans swore an oath to support and defend our Constitution NOT private political parties. Now, with help from the growing Veterans for All Voters community, our Members in closed primary states are using their strong, independent, veteran voices to demand something simple, “Let Us Vote!” Let us provide our consent. Let our voice be heard in our government.
They are declaring their independence, and signing a new “Declaration of Independence” (courtesy of our friends at OpenPrimaries.org):
Be inspired by the videos and stories below and JOIN US on this mission to ensure ALL voters can fully participate in their public elections—freely and equally—regardless of party affiliation. That sounds like true independence to me.
Onward!
